Summary

School Age Care provides a structured activity program for school-age youth who are 5 to 12 years of age. Programs may be offered before and after school and full day care during school holidays and summer vacations.

Eligibility

Authorized family members of Air Force Reserve Service members on active duty are eligible for care in School Age Care services.

Benefit Highlights

For children ages 5-12, the School Age Care Program is a nationally accredited program providing safe, supervised care before and after school and full time when school is out. School Age Care (SAC) offers activities and experiences based on needs and interests of children or youth. Programming considers current little girl sitting at her desk writingknowledge of child and youth development, the unique challenges of military life and provides a safe place for exploration while creating a sense of belonging. Programs are structured and activities conducted support positive youth development. The SAC offers comprehensive programming that covers five core program areas: Leadership and Service, The Arts, Health and Wellness, Sports and Recreation, and Education.

Daily Schedules for School Age Care include:

  • Physical fitness and/or outdoor play

  • Activities in the five core program areas

  • Independent choice

  • Homework help or tutoring

Highlights include:

  • Before and After School Care (ages 5-12 years)

  • Summer Camp and School Holiday Care

  • Potentially:

  • Fees based upon total household income

  • Transportation may be available to/from school

  • Parent Involvement and Advisory Board

  • Quality Improvement Team, which meets quarterly, and consists of program staff, parents, community educators, and youth

  • Promotes multicultural appreciation, literacy, recreational activities, and the arts

  • Accreditation & DoD Certification

Accreditation

School Age Care programs must be accredited by a national accrediting agency in accordance with 10 USC Ch 88 and DoDI 6060.02.
