Summary

The Deployment Prescription Program allows deployed service members the ability to fill their prescriptions with a 180-day supply of their medications and get refills through the Home Delivery option. This program is administered by Express Scripts.

Starting January 1, 2024, TRICARE prescription drug copayments will change at TRICARE Home Delivery and retail network pharmacies for all beneficiaries, except active duty service members, dependent survivors of active duty service members, and medically retired service members and their dependents. Eligibility

You can fill prescriptions through Deployment Prescription program, if you are:

  • A deployed service member

  • Working as deployed contractor or civil service employee AND you are eligible for TRICARE (i.e. retiree, spouse)

    • You must pay applicable copayments

    • Express Scripts will limit your prescriptions to a 90-day supply

    • Spouses will use the sponsor’s Social Security number (SSN)

    • Not available if you have other health insurance

  • Getting your health care through the Transitional Assistance Management Program

    • You must pay applicable copayments

    • Express Scripts will limit your prescriptions to a 90-day supply

    • You may be able to get a 180-day supply if your orders get extended

Benefit Highlights

The Deployment Prescription Program makes getting refills one less thing you need to think about.

Your health care provider will write a special deployment prescription that allows larger refills of your long-term medication. You just need to provide the email and shipping addresses you will use while you are deployed. pharmacy tech filling a prescription

Express Scripts will email you when a refill is due asking you to log in to confirm the order.

Your refills will ship wherever you are so your medication is there when you need it.

Getting Started: Before You Deploy

Step 1: Set up Your Account

Contact Express Scripts to create your account:

  • Go to https://militaryrx.express-scripts.com/

  • Log in or select “Create an Account” to register

    • Your ID number is your complete SSN

  • Provide an email address that you can access when you deploy

  • Use your current address (where you are now)

  • You will use the website to update your address and order refills when you deploy

  • After you deploy, you will get reminder emails from Express Scripts

Step 2: Register for the Deployment Prescription Program

  • At your pre-deployment site, complete a Deployment Prescription Program Registration Form. On the form, include your full name and SSN

  • Your pre-deployment site sends the Deployment Prescription Program Registration Form with your prescription to Express Scripts

Step 3: Get a 180-day supply of Your Prescription

  • You will get the 180-day supply from your pre-deployment pharmacy

  • This is usually the pharmacy at your military hospital or clinic

  • You will start your deployment with this 180-day supply

How to Get New Prescriptions

If you did not register before you deployed or you get a new prescription in theater, you can fill it though the Deployment Prescription Program.

You do not need to register first or order your initial prescription online. Here is how it works:

  • Your deployed clinic or pharmacy sends your prescription to Express Scripts

  • Express Scripts fills the prescription and sends it to you in theater

  • Average shipping time is about 3-4 weeks

  • You will get reminder emails from Express Scripts to order refills

How to Get Refills

Two Months into Your Deployment

Express Scripts sends you the first email message asking you to update your account with your deployed mailing address (APO/FPO). To update your account:

  • Go to https://militaryrx.express-scripts.com/

  • Log in or select “Create an Account” to register

    • Your ID number is your complete SSN

  • Change your PERMANENT address to your APO/FPO address

    • Do not input your deployed address as your TEMPORARY address

    • If you do not update your address, Express Scripts will send your prescriptions to the address provided when you registered

Four Months into Your Deployment

Express Scripts sends you a second email message reminding you to order your refill(s).

  • Log in to your account on https://militaryrx.express-scripts.com/

  • Express Scripts will mail your prescriptions only after you order them

  • Express Scripts will mail your prescriptions to the address listed in your account

  • Average shipping time is about 3-4 weeks
